GAME OVERVIEW
Football Online is a completely free PBEM game. The squads are based on real-life teams from the English Premiership. Managers will be able to conduct real-life activities such as transfers and planning club infrastructure.
Football Online will utilise the widely-used game engine ESMS+ v3.33 to play matches.
GAME REQUIREMENTS
Football Online only requires managers to have an e-mail address in order to not only send teamsheets but receive match reports and updated rosters on a weekly basis. Managers can devote as little as 15 minutes to creating and sending teamsheets per week but may also wish to contribute to the game community by participating in discussions on the Football Online forum and setting up player trades.
Previous PBEM or ESMS experience is not necessary as help can be provided by the administrator or an experienced manager.
HOW ARE GAMES PLAYED?
Matches are conducted with two updated rosters and two error-free teamsheets sent from the contesting managers. The teamsheet information will then be sent to the game engine, from which a text file will be made containing commentary from the game's events, as well as statistical information. Along with any league tables or summary text files, the matches will then be sent out to all managers in a .zip file format.
LEAGUE FORMAT
The English Premiership and Championship will have ten teams each and leagues will be played using a home-and-away format. At the end of the season, the bottom two Premiership teams are replaced by the top two teams in the Championship.
League matches will be played on weekends.
FA CUP
The FA Cup will effectively mirror that of the real-life competition by providing a one-tie knockout. If the scores are deadlocked, extra-time and penalties will be used. Eight teams will be randomly selected for the first round, with the other 12 teams joining in the following round.
FA Cup matches will always be played on midweek dates.
RESERVE LEAGUE
Young players and fringe players can participate in the Reserve Leagues in order to gain experience. There will be a skill limit to those who can play in the reserves. Managers are not required to send a teamsheet for the reserve matches but are allowed to send a teamsheet if they wish. The reserve divisions will mirror those of the senior divisions and will change according to senior clubs being promoted and relegated.
