Everton have named Jim Green as the clubs new manager. The inexperienced Englishman was unveiled to the press at Goodison yesterday evening and made little secret of his delight at the appointment. "It's a big honour for me," said Green. "Everton is a fantastic football club with a rich history and we think we have a chance of landing some silverware this season." Green revealed that former Manchester United star Phil Neville would retain the captaincy and that the versatile England international is likely to be used in a defensive role. "Phil is a born winner and an excellent footballer so it was the natural choice," said Green. "He's capable of playing in a number of positions but I think we'll be using him primarily in the back four. From time to time I may mix things up and change our system but on the whole we'll keep it simple." Meanwhile, Green singled out Tim Cahill as an integral part of his plans for the club. "Tim Cahill is a tremendous player and he's a big part of what we are hoping to do. He scores plenty of goals, works his socks off and motivates the rest of the team," said Green. The new Toffee's boss refused to be drawn on any potential moves in the transfer market but it is rumoured that he is looking to bring in a wide midfielder and a target man in the near future.
